Florida-based instrumentalists -MOYAMOYA -have released their second full-length album -HAWN. Titled after one of their first band names, HAWN, is the culmination of the past 9 years for the band. Many of the movements therein, have been in rotation in live shows since their conception in 2009 but have yet to be recorded or released until now.

While MOYAMOYA maintain their post-rock roots on HAWN, the band does depart from their previous work in notable ways. The trademark tight changes, mathy break-beats and linear songwriting remain but have been refined and matured to produce a truly remarkable record.

The opening track -ENTER: PALLBEARER -begins with vintage drum machine -a new textural element for the group -and sampled keys. From there, MOYAMOYA flow through multiple movements that harken back to the heavy guitars and break-neck transitions that remain the band's backbone. Up next -ATARI HARD -an ode to the vintage video game soundtracks, introduces further textural elements with many sections of the song being written in 8-bit sequencers. Section after section, MOYAMOYA reminisce and reinvent the notable soundtracks of the band's youth. The ethereal TRI-FIN brings even further expansion of MOYAMOYA's textural repertoire with a looped vocal from a 1950s Chinese number station.

Each section and track of HAWN find the veteran instrumentalists building upon their roots but in new and inventive ways to continue their musical maturing. The final product is well worth the listen. The self-recorded and produced record will be available for digital release from Fort Lowell records in December 2018.
